Hello, hello!!! I have two incredibly exciting things to share: 1) I'm running the New York City Marathon on November 3, 2019 2) I'm humbled to join Team World Vision to generate child sponsorships as I run these races!
Why child sponsorship? In college, Jenna and I went to a concert on a date and in the middle of the concert everything stopped and they showed a video. It was about World Vision going into brothels and stealing exploited children out of these atrocious situations, giving them a loving home, food, and sharing with them the love of Christ. The story was so moving that it made me question my life's work and I began a path that would lead me into humanitarian work.
Within the next year, both Jenna and I decided to each sponsor a child. She sponsored Jelita and I sponsored Benito. Now, after sponsoring them for over 10 years, sending them countless Christmas, Easter, and birthday letters, now they are both over 18.
Since that point, we've had a child of our own and decided that we want our Lizzie to grow up knowing just how fortunate she is. So for Christmas, we decided to sponsor a child in honor of Lizzie. Meet Hilda Astrid and her mother; they are from El Salvador!
Hilda Astrid shares a birthday with Lizzie and they are 9 months old today. My beautiful daughter will grow up with her tithe (until she's 18) contributing to the sponsorship of Hilda Astrid, because we have seen over the last 10-12 years how that sponsorship has changed our own hearts and the lives of the two children we sponsored. I'm absolutely honored to be running for this cause as I run my third World Marathon Major in New York City.
Please consider sponsoring one child and ask a friend to do likewise; we can help change lives together! Here is a video from Hilda Astrid's community, so you can get an idea of the children and communities World Vision serves.
My goal is to get 10 children sponsored as a result of this effort and I'm certain that we can do even more! If you have questions, feel free to send me an email.
Thanks for your support! Chris Free
And for giggles, here's the latest picture of Lizzie!
