The Leung family is excited to participate in the World Vision Global 6K for Water! In May 2021, we will join thousands of others around the globe to walk 6K and provide clean water to children in communities around the world.

Our daughter Serena Jean Leung died suddenly Palm Sunday morning. Her heart stopped beating. Serena’s heart valves will be donated, so her heart will go on in another baby. May God have mercy on us.

Serena Jean Leung was born March 19, weighing 7 lbs 14 oz and measuring 19.5 in. She loved hearing us sing to her. Our daughter enjoyed her milk and looking at Mama and Baba. Serena went to heaven March 28, when her heart suddenly stopped. Her heart valves will bless another baby who needs a transplant.

Our baby was born March 19 and went to heaven March 28. Mama Ling-Mei and Baba Jay do not know the purpose of her passing and are in deep shock. But one day, we will go to her and be a family reunited.

Serena was perfect. She gave her Mama and Baba the happiest nine days of their lives, amid exhaustion and poopy diapers. We want more time, but nine days or 90 years still wouldn’t be enough.

Baba Jay walks to a community well with our sponsored child in Minakulu, Uganda. We had been pen pals for years, when she invited us to come visit her in a letter. World Vision staff welcomed us on the ground. We met our sponsored child, her mother and relatives in their village. They sang to us and prepared a delicious meal for us to enjoy together. Thanks to World Vision, our sponsored child's community has clean water to drink.

We cannot have more time with Serena, but we can make a difference in the lives of other children. As World Vision child sponsors, we visited Uganda in 2019 and saw how a well dug by World Vision benefited our sponsored child. Six kilometers, or 3.7 miles, is the average distance a person in the developing world has to walk to find water — water that is often not safe to drink or wash their hands with. We want to cover that same distance so someone else no longer has to.

We would love for you to either register for the Global 6K alongside us or make a donation to our fundraising page.

For $50, World Vision can provide an individual with clean water that lasts!

Thank you for your support!

Even if it hurts, I want people to keep asking about our baby and bugging us for pictures. Please make sure she is remembered for giving her life, so her heart can grow in another baby, whose parents are also in the valley of the shadow of death. We may shed tears while we talk about Serena, but we are letting go of the grief, healing and holding on to the cherished memories of love.

World Vision works with communities in desperate need to help provide things like clean water, nutritious food, education, medical care, and economic opportunity.
